Dr. Shah specializes in the treatment of benign and malignant adult urology conditions with a focus on minimally invasive treatments for benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). He also focuses on kidney stones, vasectomy procedures, robotic surgery for prostate cancer, treatments for kidney cancer including laparoscopic surgery, and treatment of erectile dysfunction and male urinary incontinence.
Dr. Shah received his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from Duke University where he graduated summa cum laude, and went on to earn his MD degree from Stanford University. He then completed both his general surgery internship and urology residency at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA where he was the chief resident in urology.
Dr. Shah has conducted research on the development of novel medical devices for minimally invasive treatment of small renal masses and kidney stones. The technology currently is in clinical trials and is being commercialized. Dr. Shah was the recipient of the Best Poster award for this research during the American Urologic Association’s annual meeting in 2010. In addition, he also is the co-inventor of a U.S. patented technology for a non-invasive ultrasound-based device for kidney stone treatment. A clinical trial currently is underway to assess the safety and efficacy of this device.
Dr. Shah has published numerous articles on kidney stones in multiple medical journals and has presented at national meetings on subjects primarily related to kidney stones as well. His many recognitions include the Northwest Urologic Society’s award for research in advances in kidney cancer treatment, a Medical Scholars Research Fellowship from Stanford University and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons’ Resident Scholarship from the University of Washington.
